Do I need to be referred to a support group by my doctor?
No - you can refer yourself. Either contact Pain Association Scotland for details of your nearest group, or select your nearest group from the Services page, and go along. You will be made welcome!

What kinds of things happen at the groups?
Each group practices Pain Management techniques such as deep breathing, relaxation, and balanced, gentle movement for mobilty. As well as this, you will be with people in a similar situation to your own, who understand and empathise with your problems and concerns about chronic pain.

What about confidentiality? I may want to talk about things which are private to me.
Don't worry - every group practices confidentiality. What is said in the group, stays in the group.

What else can I expect from Pain Association Scotland?
Every member is offered the opportunity to take part in Living with Pain Programme. This is a programme which runs one day a week for seven weeks, and lets you really explore Pain Management in depth.

Can I talk to someone in a group before I make up my mind about going along?
Yes - the Head Office of Pain Association Scotland can put you in touch with a local contact. Phone Pain Association Scotland or use the email form on the Contact Us page to ask for details of your local group.

Will I have to pay to join a group?
Not at first - check it out and see if it is for you. If you decide it is, you will be asked to join Pain Association Scotland. The fee is currently £15 a year and £20 for family.

This will give you access to such things as the Living with Pain Programme and access to the AGM and other meetings. You will also receive our newsletter. The only thing you may be asked for in the group itself is a small donation towards tea and coffee.

What happens when I phone Pain Association Scotland?
You will be asked for your name, address and phone number. Head Office will send you an information pack about the Association.

How much is the membership fee for Pain Association Scotland?
It costs £15 for 12 months and £20 for family; the membership period runs from October to October.
